In the context of major change facing farming in general and field crops in particular, the right conditions must be provided so that farmers, and their partners, both upstream and downstream, have organisations and services catering to their real needs and coping with new challenges.
This was the context for French maize farming and its specialised organisations, and the duties of François-Gilles Le Theule who was appointed Director. Developments over recent years have featured: - the foundation of the MAIZ’EUROP’ group, and the reorganisation of AGPM according to the different professional activities. - the establishment of the plant institute, ARVALIS-Institut du Végétal, with the merging of ITCF and AGPM-Technique - the restructuring of ADAESO in line with strategic priorities and budget requirements - support given to a larger-scale plan to bring together the different associations specialising in each major crop. François-Gilles Le Theule was interested in changing his career path, and the MAIZ’EUROP’ group would like to applaud the substantial achievements of the director, and wish him further career fulfilment with new and ambitious projects. The task now is to persevere with work already underway, including the plan for the different associations to join forces, and more generally to set up departments and services that meet the requirements of the mandates. With this approach, the general management of MAIZ’EUROP’ and its associated entities will be the responsibility of Luc Esprit, currently deputy director, and who will continue as director of FNPSMS, the inter-branch structure for seed maize and seed sorghum production.
