The President of the French Republic attentive to biofuel sector
2/27/2006
AGPB President Philippe Pinta, AGPM President Christophe Terrain and FOP President Xavier Beulin spoke with the President of the French Republic when he visited the “Odyssée Végétale” exhibition stand at the Paris International Agriculture Show on Saturday, February 25.
They reiterated the full commitment of crop-growing sectors to the development of biofuels, emphasising the crucial role to be played by producers. They pointed out that as farmers currently have very low income levels, they have pinned their hopes on these new outlets.
They also drew the President’s attention to all the positive aspects of biofuels — economic, social and environmental. Investments made by the sectors are helping achieve the objectives set by public authorities for these areas. In the European Union, therefore, all necessary steps must be taken to avoid biofuel imports which would completely destroy these positive gains.
They also pointed out that while these energy outlets mainly concern crop production, by-products (spent grain and oilseed cake) can also provide solutions for animal farming, and have direct effects on both the economy and society in our different regions.
The presidents of the three crop groups said they were confident after hearing the encouraging comments from the head of State.
