After Pascal’s five-hectare plot planted with GM maize was destroyed, he and AGPM President, Christophe Terrain, held a press conference on Tuesday, August 1.
300 farmers and neighbours rallied spontaneously, expressing their solidarity with Pascal.
The Court had handed down a ruling against Greenpeace which had divulged the identity of the farmers and the GPS references of their plots planted with authorized varieties; the anti-GM group then opted for intimidation tactics and continued their work of destruction.
This was the experience for Pascal whose five-hectare plot of maize was destroyed by a group of “volunteer reapers” [“faucheurs volontaires”] led by José Bové.
In the face of such intolerable behaviour, Pascal, backed by AGPM and AGPM President, Christophe Terrain, responded vigorously to the media, surrounded by a large number of farmers on the plot where the maize had been destroyed, rallying:
- to defend the farming profession, farms and respect for the law.
- to resist in the face of extremism and thuggish practices.
