ORAMA applauds the appointment of Michel Barnier

ORAMA has noted with satisfaction the appointment of Mr. Michel Barnier as France’s Minister of Agriculture.

Michel Barnier’s ambitions for the European Union are widely known and recognised.  He has the ability to lead Europe to greater awareness of the Union’s obligations worldwide in the area of field crops.  This has happened at a particularly crucial time for WTO negotiations, as the European Commission appears to be preparing to back down, giving in to the blackmail of the United States schedule.

The appointment of Michel Barnier is also timely in a period of market development that highlights the need for French and European grain and oil and protein seed crops to keep up with increasing demand.  ORAMA is counting on the new minister to see that this major issue is given proper consideration in agricultural policy, and as much attention as is given to the duty of farmers to preserve the environment and maintain a high level of food quality.
