The Minister of Agriculture has announced that official approval for the use of Cruiser on maize will be extended, but with even more restrictions applying in 2009 than there were in 2008.
This has been noted. It is the minimum which is absolutely essential for maize growers who are now completely cornered on soil-borne pest control for the next season.
Unfortunately, the conditions as imposed mean that in practice Cruiser can only be used in very limited scope in relation to the extent of the real requirements of farmers, and even though there have been perfectly clear scientific and technical reports.
Furthermore, as the Ministry announced the decision very late, farm suppliers now have greatly restricted capacity to meet demand from maize growers for treated seed in time for planting.
