ORAMA applauds the appointment of Mr. Bruno Le Maire to the Ministry of Agriculture which has been extended to include “Food.” The new Minister has international experience, including as Secretary of State for European Affairs, which will be a great asset for key meetings on agriculture in the future, with the resumption of WTO negotiations, the establishment of the new European budgetary framework and the reform of the CAP post-2013 – all strategic points of critical importance for the future of the grain and oil and protein seed sectors.
The implementation of the CAP Health Check and the preparation of legislation on the modernisation of agriculture will be of similarly strategic importance for ORAMA, asserting its determination to develop innovative, productive and competitive sectors, doing so for two key purposes: to contribute to supplying world markets and to respond to both food and non-food needs, meeting the expectations of society. This ambition means using all the tools developed through research to support the financial and economic organisation of producers and inter-branch arrangements, and to initiate a range of financial support measures to help farmers on the land contend with market volatility.
ORAMA also wishes to draw the attention of the Minister of Agriculture to the current situation where the trend in grain prices and oil and protein seed prices is cause for concern when seen in relation to expenditure committed for the 2009 harvest. This means ORAMA will be preparing work in advance for the future Market Monitoring Committee to be set up, as announced by the President of the Republic on March 30, and will soon be making a statement on its own economic observatory.
