The environment – the heart of maize farming

The protection of the environment is a critical part of sustainable development.  Maize growers, like other citizens, are concerned by the issue; they work with a living product, together with the soil, water, air and landscape, and are stakeholders in the environment.

AGPM work on the environment involves monitoring and forward planning of technical, scientific and regulatory developments so as to provide information to producers and help them adapt to new expectations and new regulatory requirements.

The AGPM works together with the administration and public authorities ensuring that changes to regulations are in line with the technical and economic balance at the farm level.  Work undertaken concerns all the different inputs, including water, plant protection products and GMOs.
These issues of course do not apply solely to maize and are also dealt with by the Orama Union. *

* Orama, the French arable crop union, the members being:  AGPM (the French general association of maize producers), AGPB (the French general association of wheat producers) and FOP (the French federation of oil seed & protein seed producers).
